BYRON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

"There are times we feel nearly helpless, nearly.
But God has given us something we can do.
He's given us this ministry, these people, this church."

--Pastor Dan Sturdivant

Do you know anyone who is sick or dying? Do you know anyone who is grieving a loss--a loved one, a separation or divorce? Do you know anyone facing a job crisis or other major life transition? Would you like to provide comfort and support, but are unsure what to do or say? Perhaps you are looking for a loving and committed community and a meaningful way to matter to others.

Krockpot Brigade

"The home-cooked meal I receive from the Krockpot Brigade is the highlight of my week." (a bed-ridden cancer survivor)

In 2006 Kaleidoscope visionaries realized the importance of offering meals to those living with cancer and other illnesses, thus the Krockpot Brigade was formed. Our volunteer cooks prepare and deliver a complete meal each week to individuals or families who are facing challenging illnesses. Many of our cooks are cancer survivors themselves.

Our motto is “Serving Food with Kindness” but the food is only the beginning of what we do. The food provides nourishment for the body but we are also serving large portions of love, friendship and connection. We listen to their stories, we show them concern and offer encouragement. In turn, our cooks receive great joy in delivering these meals. We respond when we get a frantic call from a mom who asks if we could prepare dinner for her family while she stays near the side of her ill child at the hospital. Sometimes, when we deliver food we are greeted by the smiles of young children who are eager to see what they are receiving for dinner.

The Krockpot Brigade is successful because of many dedicated volunteers who want to do their small part to make a difference. If you want more information on becoming a Krockpot Brigade volunteer or if you or someone you know may benefit from this program, please contact us.
