Kaleidoscope is a cancer outreach movement with a presence that keeps expanding from its modest origins like ripples on a pond. A signature “Bag of Hope” is delivered to someone diagnosed with cancer, and the multi-faceted means of connection result in a lifetime impact on recipients and volunteers alike. The organization seeks to connect recipients with others of a like diagnosis and offers support group meetings.
Since its inception in 2003, as an outreach of Byron United Methodist Church, located in East Contra Costa County, Kaleidoscope has grown beyond the vision of its founders. There has been such a need and demand, in less than five years, the organization has flourished with over 100 caring members and close to 500 recipients of “Bags of Hope”, along with numerous requests for how to replicate this program.
The “Bags of Hope” project, a network of committed volunteers, and the support meetings continue to expand. Kaleidoscope has linked with other life-celebrating, grief-observing programs to enhance helping skills in individuals and families who are struggling with cancer.
